I haven’t seen a browser abandonment email in action before but I liked the concept. If you don’t know what they do, essentially, if you have had your email address captured on the site before, a cookie will be stored so even if you’re not logged in then the site will still know it’s you. In this case they have used this as an opportunity to remind me that I abandoned buying train tickets to London.
It arrived just under 48 hours after I was browsing – good timing since it is more than likely I would have returned to purchase had I remembered within 24 hours, or had to confirm details. I like the way that they’ve included the prices and the date I was intending to book for.
The only problem I forsee with browser abandon is the assumption that the person whose email address is captured will be the one who is currently browsing – if multiple people use the browser on the same device then it would be a problem.
